Post Rat...ingen, foot update and back into heptathlon training:)

Its been over a week since I was in Germany lining up to compete in my second heptathlon in Europe. I felt great heading into the hep and it was so nice to have my Mum arrive in Europe to support me. After a good start in the hurdles 13.90 which was faster than Gotzis I was excited to be back in my happy place of heptathlon!

Not too many competition pics due to lack of competing! Just saving it for the big show:)
Thanks Jarrod Adams for the pic

Unfortunately during the second event, high jump in my final warm up jump I jammed my take off foot off which was not ideal. With every jump in the competition my pain in my foot increased so we made the call not to continue onto higher heights. I ended up winning the event with a clearance of 1.81m which was well below my best.
I felt I was still able to continue at this stage but my performance in the remaining 2 events of the day were compromised due to my foot. At the end of day 1 we made a choice to pull out of the heptathlon. Whilst I do not like not completing heptathlons the main event is in August for me and I need to ensure my body is in one piece and in peak condition in order to be at my best. I was supported by my amazing team and we knew it was the right and sensible decision to make.

My team kicked into overdrive and arranged for me to see specialists in Zurich last Monday and have further treatment in London throughout last week. I am extremely grateful to the excellent care I received both in Zurich at one of the FIFA Medical Centres and in London at the Lee Valley Athletics Centre and all the people that sorted this treatment out for me. I was able to get some good training done in London as well as recovering from the body work I received. It was fantastic to be in London and feel the buzz in the city which will only increase in the coming weeks!

Amazing facilities and extremely helpful gurus! Thanks so much Dan Pfaff for your awesomeness :)

I arrived back in Switzerland in the weekend and have resumed running training today. There is no better feeling for me than running and it was so nice to get in to it today! Thank you so much for all your messages of support and for sending all your healing vibes my way - I really appreciate it!!!

Hepta-coma recovery, heptathlon training and now heptathlon time!!!

When you put your body on the line and ask it to go to another level it takes a while to recover:) It is always good to get back into training after a few well deserved days off post heptathlon. Getting back into training is the best cure for a hepta-coma for me. Training is a calming influence and when your body is so used to the load after a few rest days its craving a fix!

It was great to meet up with my Aunty Glenda, Uncle Graham and cousin James in Geneva for the day on my rest days following Gotzis...So lovely to see family when you are on the other side of the world!

I enjoyed the success at Gotzis but my focus shifted pretty quickly to preparing for Ratingen. We have been refining technical aspects of my events and combined with a bit of load to ensure I take it up another notch. A fast recovery is always essential and even more important after Gotzis to make sure every day counts:)

Multi-eventers multi tasking at physio - lipus US, icing and more US on other foot:)
Getting the body in top shape to go again!

I am looking forward to heading to Ratingen for my heptathlon this Thursday and Friday (14/15 June). It is an awesome competition to be a part of and it will be great to have some strong kiwi support there. Thanks so much for all the support and keep it coming as we step it up another level. It is business time and time for another points fest!!!
