Heptathlon training in Dunedin and finishing up a great training block of load:)

Being in Dunedin last week was a great opportunity to finish off my training cycle strongly. After three solid weeks it was great to be able to produce some satisfying training results in the last few sessions. One of the best sessions of the week for me was doing a nasty set of 300 reps on Friday afternoon (second to last session of a big training cycle so legs pretty smashed already!). It was awesome to be able to do this session with Bec with both of us keeping each other honest and pushing each other throughout every rep. It was fair to say we were both hurting after the final rep!

Pushing ourselves to the limit and paying the price!
Bec and I in hurt central but happy to be there...weird I know

The training camp effect for athletes has been talked about a lot in research. I think for me personally whilst I love the environment at MISH and my training group it is quite refreshing to be in another place to refresh your mind. It was great to do a few weights with former sprinter turned sprint track cyclist pro Katie Schofield. It was also very handy to have a 5-10mintue drive to training as opposed to having to cross the Harbour Bridge:) It was fantastic to get in some really good work with my strength coach Angus who with the rest of my team are constantly looking at ways I can improve. Thanks to Dunedin and the Dunners crew for a great week!

Great crew to smash out some great sessions - Katie, Myself and Bec

So...I'm into my recovery week now. It's a very satisfying feeling for me have come through another cycle unscathed and knowing the work I have done and the loads I've put my body under:) With not long to go til I leave home it's a great chance to recover, make sure my body is ready for the last couple of weeks in NZ and tick off the little jobs that I need before I leave. Job tonight...cheer on the NZ Breakers Basketball team to victory in the ANBL Championship!

During a med ball set, I managed to throw the ball hard enough against the wall that one of the screws came out!

100 days!!!!

Happy 100 days until the start of the Olympics!!! It's a pretty cool feeling to hit this landmark and has been marked with a few celebrations and more selection announcements around the country. For me it was another good day at the office - hurdles, big weights session and a recovery fartlek run. It's really nice to be in Dunedin and pretty cool to be here with my good friend and fellow heptathlete Becky Wardell on this significant day on the road to London!

100 days to go in Dunedin at track 11, 2012 - Caledonian Ground

Two thirds done and in Dunedin to finish off another heptathlon training cycle

I'm two thirds through my training cycle which is a very satisfying feeling but my body is certainly feeling the loads I've put it under. Making every rep count, smashing out my sessions and staying healthy is what I'm focused on as I finish this cycle off:) I arrived in sunny Dunedin yesterday for a weeks training camp with my strength coach Angus and to train alongside my  friend and fellow heptathlete, Becky Wardell. My base in Auckland is like my second home - one of the hockey boys last week even asked if I lived at MISH (not the first time I've been asked this question!) but it comes with the territory of being a heptathlete. So a change in environment is very refreshing and it's great to be able to get stuck into some good work with Angus. I'll keep you posted how I go at the end of the week...in the meantime time to put another layer on as I head out the door for training in the south....

We sent the bulk of my supplements and a few other things to my European base and last week it arrived.
Unfortunately a bottle of cherry juice which is a recovery supplement leaked in the box:(
Bit of a mess for my friend to clean up at the other end...sorry!

1.5L of cherry juice through the box...oh dear!

Happy Easter and another heptathlon training week done!

I hope everyone is having a lovely Easter where ever you are in the world! Public holidays for athletes are really just another day so I've been training through but I will enjoy my rest day today:) I've had a really good week smashing up the start of a new cycle. I was itching to go and get stuck in to some hard work following my recovery week. I get a bit antsy if I rest for too long so come last Monday morning I ready to go. Once again I can walk away from the training week very satisfied with the progress we are making and pretty buggered because of it! Below are some pics of what some of the stuff I've been up to during the week for you to enjoy....

In the HPSNZ gym where new track lines have been painted during the week. Looking pretty good.
Guru status physios and absolute champions...My physio dream team - Jordy and Lou:)

Dress up Saturday session as another sport! Scotty, myself and Craig. Great to see the Breakers into the finals series too!!!

900kg of Sileni wine delivered earlier in the week and 600kg to Rotorua.
Big thanks to Immi, Rich and Pam for helping me sort it all out!
